Butterfly Child Lilijana

Let me introduce you to Lilijana. She’s a sweet, lively little girl from Vorarlberg who, like other children, finds joy and fun in life. What sets her apart, however, is her condition: Epidermolysis Bullosa. This rare and currently incurable disease is caused by a genetic mutation, making her skin as fragile as a butterfly’s wing. Every accidental touch, every small friction can cause blisters and wounds. This alone brings a lot of pain and suffering for butterfly children, as you can’t completely shield them from the world. But what’s even harder is how they’re often stared at in public or treated as if they were contagious. But they’re not! Everyday life for Lilijana and her parents is a constant challenge. Grabbing a quick Nutella sandwich? Not possible—the crust would injure the lining of her mouth. Playing with mom’s hair and giving it a tug? Ouch! That would tear the skin on her fingers. Many things that people with healthy skin take for granted can be dangerous for Lilijana. You can’t imagine how much bandaging, care products, and medical support are needed to keep Lilijana well cared for day after day. Yet, she is incredibly brave and truly a little hero to us. That’s why we’re so happy to help make life a bit easier for her family—with our donation. And thanks to your purchase.
